Adekunbi Bakare, Public Affairs Director, joined the Lagos State Parks & Gardens Agency (LASPARK) in March 2023 after a period of service in the Lagos State Judiciary on secondment from the Ministry of Information and Strategy.

Her career in the Lagos State Civil Service which started over two decades ago has taken her through different Ministries, Departments & Agencies (MDAs) of the Lagos State Government primarily with public affairs and other special project responsibilities. These MDAs include the Ministry of Information & Strategy (her parent ministry) from where she has been seconded over the years to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry; Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA); Management Service & Reform Office (MSRO) now known as the Lagos State Office of Transformation, Creativity & Innovation (OTCI); and the Lagos State Judiciary before joining LASPARK.

While at MSRO, she was a member of a special project team composed of select officials of the state government to facilitate a project tagged SPARC (State Partnership for Accountability, Responsibility, Responsiveness and Capability) for public sector reform, public finance management as well as development of policy and strategy, working with DFID Consultants. She was also a team member on the Lagos State Strategic Management Project tagged Project WHEEL jointly facilitated by a select team of Lagos State officials and Consultants from international consulting firm, Price water house Coopers (PwC) with His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu (then Commissioner for Establishment, Training & Development) as Project Co-ordinator. Project WHEEL led to the development of vision and mission for Lagos State with a comprehensive blueprint to transform each sector in addition to the development of Service Charters, Service Level Agreements (SLA) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) at different levels.

As a pioneer staff of LASTMA, Mrs. Bakare served as Administrative Officer and was part of the team that put the necessary structures and systems in place to build what has become a successful model in traffic management which has now been replicated in other states.

She has a Master’s degree in Communication Studies and a Post-graduate diploma in Public Relations & Advertising. A full member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (MNIPR), Mrs. Bakare has attended several professional training programmes and is also a member of other professional bodies including the Nigerian Union of Journalists, National Association of Women Journalists and the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered).

She is involved in voluntary activities to contribute to the elevation of public relations practice through health advocacy, humanitarian services and awareness creation for public good.

Mrs. Bakare is happily married with children.
